When Don Ruggles, Melissa Mabe and I first visited this hay ranch and WW1-era potato farm bordering the Roaring Fork River, we knew we had a singular opportunity to not only create a homestead but to inspire daily life for the owners.

Taking design cues from the colonial-era farmhouses of Pennsylvania, this home’s restrained exterior materials, rectangular footprint and simple roof lines allowed us to create a home that is not only beautiful in its simplicity but economical in its construction.

As original project architect, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding this home’s evolution for over 15 years and through two owners. I’ve remained involved, providing fresh interior updates and thoughtful additions that honor the home’s original design while supporting the development of the working ranch operations. It’s been a rewarding journey to help shape each new chapter of the property’s story.
